The Minister of Works Engr. David Umahi has faulted the construction work being done at Benin-Warri Road, threatening to terminate the multi-billion naira project if the contractors fails to comply strictly with the scope and specification of the work.
He subsequently directed the ministry’s supervising engineers to issue a warning letter to the contractors on Monday and after 14 days should the contractor fails to do the right thing, he will personally terminate the contract.
Engr. Umahi, who was on an inspection tour of on-going construction work on federal roads across the country, was received in Benin by officials of the Federal Ministry Works and that of Edo State Ministry of Roads and Bridges.
After inspecting the Benin–Ologbo axis of the Road, Umahi lamented that contractors in the country were playing politics with Nigerians and warned that he would not tolerate such under his watch.
He said that Levant Construction Company was the most capable out of the bunch of three handling the project though the company was not meeting the spelt out specifications as laid down in the terms of contract.
The Minister also paid a courtesy call on the governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki where he commended him for the quality of work being done in the state.
Engr. Umahi also inspected on-going work at Auchi Road.
