A civil rights group, Talakawa’s Parliament (TP) has tasked the Incorporated Trustees of Inner City Mission for Children, Believers Love World (BLW) Nigeria Ltd to obey the High Court of Ogun State, Abeokuta judicial division, presided over by honourable Justice B.B Adebowale that orders the demolition of an unauthorized fence blocking a public access road to one Mr. Paul Audu.
President of the group, Marxist Kola Edokpayi, gave the task while addressing journalists during a press conference in Benin City.
He said Mr. Audu has been using the access road for more than ten years before it was blocked.
In the statement issued by the Talakawa’s Parliament, it accused the church in Asese community in the state for allegedly employing the services of some security agencies to obstruct the enforcement of a valid court order which ordered the removal of the perimeter fence obstructing access road for more than ten years before Christ Embassy decided to start development of its property within jurisdiction.
The group called on the federal government to investigate the activities of the security agencies and call them to order to avoid a repeat of what happened in an ambush and murdered of some military personnel in the most barbaric manner in Okuama community of Ughelle South Local Government Area of Delta State by some indigenes of the community who felt that they were being oppressed.
The group also demanded that the perimeter fence blocking the access road approved by the Ogun State government should be removed and be erected where it should be in compliance with the outcome of the police investigations and the valid order of court.
However, another human rights group, based in Abuja, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), countering Talakawa’s Parliament claims, said the church never employed the services of the security agencies rather it was the sporadic gun shots allegedly fired by some thugs in that area that drew the attention of the security agencies who later came to restore peace.
Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko National Coordinator of HURIWA, commended the security agencies for saving the day.
“The conflict originated from an interlocutory order issued by Justice B.B. Adebowale of the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta on July 1, 2024, in favour of Mr. Paul Audu, mandating the demolition of a fence between his property and the Inner City Mission.
“The defendants, Inner City Mission for Children, promptly appealed the order the same day and obtained a notice of appeal and a stay of execution, which were duly served on all relevant parties”, Onwubiko said.
