Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has said his government is prepared to deal severely with anyone who violates the rights of any child in the state.
He gave the warning while speaking with journalists in the state capital, Asaba, Delta State.
Oborevwori said every child deserves the right to a better life especially quality education which is the corner stone of a brighter future.
The governor said the situation whereby children who are supposed to be in school learning are seen hawking sachet water in the market places or working as a domestic worker in people’s houses can never be tolerated anymore in the state.
The governor said his government is committed to the overall wellbeing of all Deltans
Speaking, one of the children, Akpos Onovughe, who ought to have been in school but was seen at the market place hawking sachet water, said he would have preferred to go to school to selling in the market.
He said his custodian would not allow him to go to school when other of the children are going.
Onovughe added that all the domestic work are left for him to do adding that, most times, he goes to bed late and wakes up before everyone in the house.
The little boy said he has hope that one day, he would be able to leave the house and look for a better person to stay with, a person who will see to his education needs and will not suffocate him with domestic work.
