The general overseer and founder of God’s Greater Grace General Assembly Intl Incorporated, Benin, Rev Sunny Akenbor, has said it is never the plan of God for christians to be poor but that some believers on their own volition, have chosen to be poor due to their actions and inactions.
He disclosed this while speaking on the topic: “Breaking the yoke of poverty” during the Sunday church service in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Rev. Akenbor said for believers to know that it is not in God’s dictionary for them to be poor and that it saddens His heart, that is why He said in His word that He wished us above all things to prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospereth
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth”, 3 John 1:2.
Akenbor said for believers to free themselves from the burden of poverty, they have to work on their mentality adding that the scripture has already given an answer to that because as a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov. 23:7).
He said if believers can think it, God Almighty can do it, therefore, they must always learn to think positively rather than becloud their minds with negative thoughts.
The clergyman who listed over enjoyment, lack of plannings, bad companies as some of the key factors that can easily land believers into poverty, urged them to develop the culture of planning and savings instead of consuming all that they have at a-go, believing that more will come.
“But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine! “Let us eat and drink,” you say, “for tomorrow we die!”, Isaiah 22:13
He said christian faithful must learn how to plan and set goals either short term or long term, noting that, a man who fails to plan has already made preparation for his failure.
He further warned believers to always watch out for friends who are always there when it is so rosy with them and can’t make any meaningful suggestions that would improve on their lives and wellbeing neither can he be found in their tough times.
He added that one of the other sure way of breaking the jinx of poverty is for christians to always support the work of God because He is the one that gives them power to make wealth.
“But you shall remember [with profound respect] the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore (solemnly promised) to your fathers, as it is this day”, Deuteronomy 8:18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it”, Malachi 3:10.
