NIS Schools Officers In Edo On Dangers Of Corruption

With the aim of strengthening services and reducing corruption in the sector, the Edo State command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has joined in the 3rd edition of the ongoing NIS nationwide sensitisation and awareness campaign against corruption.

The annual event is to sanitise the immigration system for efficient and service delivery.

It is therefore important for the orientation given to other officers on job ethics which is in line with the vision of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

Speaking, the Controller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Edo State command, Martin Monyei, (PCC), said this year’s theme:” Increased Digitalization and Consolidated Innovations for Efficient and Transparent Services,” resonate deeply with our commitment to transforming the Nigerian Immigration Service into a corruption free organisation.

Also there was a paper presentations by resource persons from NIS headquarters outlining the benefits of increased digitalization and encouraging the officers to embrace real anti-corruption mechanisms with the mindset of service to humanity.

For Daniel Akao, said,” When you are dealing with persons or providing your services, you have to be efficient. What is efficiency? It is used in streamlining the person to save time so that you don’t delay the person,” he added.

For the Hon. Commissioner, Public Complaint Commission, Austine Aigbavboa, he said “once again, NIS has been put on their toes, and awareness had been created. They have been told what they stand to gain or lose if they are corrupted.”

However, some representatives of the anti-corruption partners reaffirmed their support for the organisation.

Some of the participants at the event, Mrs. Premo Ayaoja, said,” activities like this gives us the opportunity to access what NIS has done and the way forward.

“So far, the immigration has tried especially the innovations that the current Minister and the Controller General had inputted into the NIS.

Some NIS initiatives put in place to boost the operational efficiency include; body cameras for field officers and contactless passports system.
