The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma Chapter, has mourned the passing of the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Daniel Osikheme Orbih.
In a condolence letter dated September 1, 2026, and signed by the chapter’s Chairperson, Dr. Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele, and Secretary, Dr. William Odion, the union described Chief Orbih’s death as a profound and devastating loss to the university and the wider academic community.
Addressed to the Governing Council through the Vice-Chancellor, the letter paid tribute to his service to the institution and expressed heartfelt condolences to his family and the university community.
The union said the late Pro-Chancellor was “more than a principal officer,” describing him as a beacon of competence, a pillar of leadership and a strong advocate of good governance.
According to the union, Chief Orbih demonstrated a firm belief in teamwork and was deeply committed to repositioning Ambrose Alli University to achieve the noble objectives for which it was established.
ASUU noted that his vision for the institution was anchored on excellence, integrity and service, adding that his wealth of experience and fatherly guidance would be sorely missed.
“His demise, at a time when the University needed his wealth of experience and fatherly guidance the most, has left a vacuum that will be deeply felt in the hierarchy of governance of this institution,” the union stated.
The academic staff union stressed that the loss extended beyond the Governing Council, describing it as a painful blow to the entire university community.
ASUU-AAU also expressed solidarity with the Governor of Edo State and Visitor to the University, the Governing Council, the university administration, staff, students and the bereaved family.
The union prayed for strength and fortitude for the family and the university community to bear the loss, while calling for the late Chief Orbih’s legacy of dedication and service to remain a source of inspiration.
