Music maestro, Innocent Idibia fondly known as 2Baba, has spoken out over the senseless killings in Benue State, calling the act a national emergency.
In a video uploaded online, 2Baba, who hails from the state, stated that his heart was heavy and added that he was speaking with sadness and anger over the current situation in his state.
While decrying that the crisis has to stop, the music icon stressed that everyone should be involved in the fight against the insurgents.
“My heart is heavy. I’m terribly sad, terribly angry. It’s become a national emergency, what’s going on in Benue State.
“I cannot wrap my head around… I don’t even know what to say at this point in time cos it’s gonna be business as usual.
“Hey, we condemn the killing. This has to stop! It has to stop. It has to involve everybody, every stakeholder in this country. This is not child’s play…,” 2Baba added.
Recall that in the early hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked Yelwata and Daudu in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, killing over 200 people and leaving others with various degrees of injuries.
Their victims included security agents, aged persons, as well as women and children IDPs who were earlier chased from their communities following attacks.
It was learnt that the attacks were unprovoked, as women and children had their throats slit in their sleep while families were wiped out.
The killings also came barely a week after Aondona and other communities in Gwer West LGA were attacked, leaving close to a hundred people dead.
Recall also that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Olufemi Oloyede, on Monday, June 2, 2025, relocated temporarily to Makurdi to tackle the worsening security challenges in the state.
He, however, left less than 48 hours after he visited the state Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, and some communities.
