In its 7th edition, the brand is set to honour two of the state’s most revered figures, Late Professor Ambrose Ali and the late Capt. (Dr.) Wells Hosa Okunbor posthumously.
Late Professor Ambrose Ali, the former governor of the defunct Bendel State and a trailblazer in the field of education, will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to the development of education in Edo State and beyond.
His policies on free education and infrastructural development continued to inspire generations.
Recognizing such an iconic figure posthumously, reflects the Best of Edo Award’s commitment to honouring both past and present heroes who have left an indelible mark on society.
Late Capt. Wells Hosa Okunbor JP was a renowned businessman, philanthropist, and aviation expert whose life was marked by visionary leadership and a deep commitment to societal development.
He founded Wells Oil and Wells Aviation, leading pioneering initiatives in the oil, gas, and aviation sectors.
His entrepreneurial prowess extended across Nigeria and Africa, creating thousands of jobs and contributing significantly to economic growth.
Beyond business, Capt. Okunbor was widely respected for his philanthropy, supporting education, healthcare, and youth empowerment initiatives.
He was deeply involved in community development, making lasting impacts on many lives.
His legacy of service, leadership, and compassion continues to inspire, and his posthumous recognition at the 7th edition of the Best of Edo Award is a fitting tribute to his enduring contributions to society.
This year’s edition of the Best of Edo Award will also celebrate other accomplished individuals who embody leadership, innovation, and excellence.
Among these honourees is Dr. Rachel Akhuetie, Executive Director of SunTrust Atlantic Energies Limited, who will be receiving the Professional Leadership Development Award for her outstanding contributions to the energy sector.
Similarly, Dr. Ewere Ofiri, Chief Dr. Chris Ekiyor, and Oghoyemwen Joan Qnede Edward, Dr. Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin, Omokhodio Ugbesia, are among the esteemed personalities being honoured for their exceptional work in their respective fields.

This year, the event will introduce an Inaugural Lecture, with the theme “Building a Moral Economy: Strategy for Sustainable Development”.
In light of today’s economic challenges, the lecture aims to foster dialogue on ethical business practices and sustainable growth, offering fresh perspectives to stakeholders in Edo State and beyond.
The Chief Executive Officer of Best of Edo Award, Mr. Paul Ofoni also emphasized the benefits of the inaugural lecture, stating that it would provide actionable insights and strategies for navigating today’s economic climate.
