The assistant pastor of God’s Greater Grace General Assembly Intl Incorporated, Benin, Pastor Osazee Aibangbee has admonished christian faithful to result to singing of praises to God when being confronted with difficult situations.
He gave the admonition while delivering his homily at the Sunday service in Benin City with the theme “The power of praise”.
The clergyman who took his bible reading from the book of 11 Chronicles 20: 21-22, gave an account of the children of Israelites who were encompassed with several enemies but with praises unto God, God Almighty sent an ambush upon them (that is, their enemies).
“After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendour of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”
“As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon”, Aibangbee said.
He also reminded believers of the case of Paul and Silas in the book of Acts 16: 25 who were imprisoned but through praises, they were being set free.
“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
“And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed”, Aibangbee added.
He added that praises move God’s hand into actions while prayers trouble the heart of God.
He urged the believers that when they pray and nothing seems to happen, they should turn to God in praises, stressing that it is not only through prayers one can communicate with God but also through praises.
He however listed the benefits of praises to God which he said include lifting of ones spirit, helping to sense God’s presence, reminding one of His blessings, revealing of solutions to problems.
He further urged them to always learn to praise God in all times because that is the only thing they have to offer Him as his children, stressing that many battles have been fought and won through praises.
