Desmond Elliot Seeks Gbajabiamila’s Forgiveness, Prostrates In Reconciliation Bid

Lagos State lawmaker and actor, Desmond Elliot, has renewed his apology to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his role in the dispute that rocked the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

Elliot tendered the apology during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other APC chieftains, where he went on his knees and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives in a fresh bid to mend fences with the party’s leadership in Lagos.

In a video shared by Lagos Junction on X on Sunday and quoted by Newstracktoday, the Surulere Constituency I representative expressed remorse over his conduct, admitting that he may have been misguided during the political crisis.

Elliot also pledged to recommit himself to the party and renew his loyalty to its leadership, signalling a renewed effort to resolve the differences that emerged during the contentious primary.

“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy,” Elliot said.

Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to get up.

The latest apology comes months after Elliot first appealed to Gbajabiamila for forgiveness during an appearance on TVC’s Your View.

He said any misunderstanding between them was unintentional and described the Chief of Staff as his political mentor.

“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my “egbon”. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.

He added, “To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way.”

The renewed reconciliation effort follows political tensions surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis.

Gbajabiamila had previously disclosed that he nearly lost his position at the Presidency after intelligence reports allegedly linked Elliot to moves surrounding the Assembly speakership tussle, an allegation the lawmaker denied.

The dispute was rooted in disagreements within the Lagos APC over the leadership of the Assembly and was later resolved following interventions by senior party leaders.

Elliot’s latest apology now puts his renewed attempt to mend relations with the APC leadership on record.
