In order to stem the tide of outbreak of cholera and other water borne diseases, member representing Oredo West constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Hon. Dr. Richard Osaro Edosa has donated six boreholes to the people of his constituency.

Speaking at Oredo ward 10 in Benin City where he commissioned one of the boreholes, he said that one of the major causes of water borne diseases is the absence to quality drinking water.

Dr. Edosa said when the people are healthy, they can contribute their quota to the development of the country but if reverse is the case, the country will be the one to suffer.

Edosa added that one of the duty of government is to provide basic amenities for the people and besides basic amenities which are those things that make life easier for the citizens, and as a member representing his constituency, he is also interested in their health.

According to him,”One of the causes of diseases is disease causing organisms that are water borne diseases and that is what the white man calls it.

“Pipe borne diseases are diseases that are gotten through water. So if you give clean portable water to the citizens, you are able to prevent diseases like that for instance, cholera.

“There is an outbreak of cholera in our country in the recent times. If people have clean pipe borne water, they would have prevented the outbreak of cholera.

“I am covering six wards in my community, Oredo ward 10, 6,7,8,9,11. I have done solar power boreholes and I targeted those areas in my community where I noticed that the people go around in search for water to drink. I have to do my investigations and I have to focus on these areas. More will come as we go.

“So, that is what we are bringing to the table. Health is our priority, security is our priority and education is our priority and if we focus on these, our society will be a better place to live in”.

The lawmaker who is also launching over a 150 street lights located in various strategic places to combat crime and criminality in the state, said security bikes have been made available for the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) by him for them to patrol around the community to ensure the safety of the people of his constituency.

Lauding the lawmaker, Mr. Sunday Iyodo, said the community has been suffering from acute shortages of water for a very long time but that today, God has remembered them through the lawmaker representing the constituency.
