Edo Governor’s Wife Launches PDP Women’s Campaign, Recalls Past Support

Wife of the Edo State governor and Chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Campaign Council, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki has officially launched the women’s campaign for the upcoming governorship election for the party, just as she recalled how her husband, the governor was supported in the last election in the state.

The campaign commenced in Uromi, where women leaders from Esan North East and Esan South West LGAs gathered to meet with Mrs. Obaseki.

In her address, she expressed gratitude for their support during the 2020 governorship election, acknowledging the women’s crucial role in securing Governor Obaseki’s second term.

“You stood firm in 2020, ensuring governor Obaseki’s re-election, especially during challenging times.

” I’m here to thank you on behalf of the governor and myself,” said Mrs. Obaseki.

She also introduced Mrs. Ifeyinwa Asue Ighodalo, wife of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, as the potential governor’s wife.

“Mrs. Ighodalo promised to build on the current administration’s efforts, with a focus on women’s involvement in agriculture.

“If elected, I will continue the work that has already been started, especially in empowering women in agriculture,” Mrs. Ighodalo stated.

“We aim to make Edo State a leader in women’s agricultural participation.”

The event also featured remarks from local leaders who praised Mrs. Obaseki’s efforts.

The women leader from Esan North East LGA highlighted the advancement of women in the state, noting, “Under your leadership, women have achieved significant roles, we now boast of having a female Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Maria Edekor and a female Council Vice Chairman in the person of Mrs Susan Otekpe.”

The Esan South East Women Leader expressed appreciation for the positive impact of Mrs. Obaseki’s initiatives, saying, “You’ve brought a new light to Edo State, ensuring that women are no longer overlooked after elections.”

The Chairman of Esan North East LGA also commended the governor, adding, “We are grateful for the choice of a candidate with character, competence, and capacity.”

The campaign underscores the vital role of women in Edo State’s political landscape as the election season approaches.
