The National Transition Committee of Mobilisation and Recruitment Chairman, of Labour Party (LP), Dr. Kingsley Okundaye has described the alleged attack on Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata’s campaign team in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State as most barbaric in the recent time.
Recall that the former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Barr. Akpata is the governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the September 21, 2024 election in Edo
Okundaye who is also the national coordinator of Patriotic Members Congress of the LP, gave the condemnation in a press statement made available to journalists in Benin.
He expressed disappointment that at this modern age and time, people could still resort to what he described as backward way of trying to prevent the opposition party candidate from carrying out its constitutional responsibility.
He described the attack on Akpata as barbaric and undemocratic, adding that the people who orchestrated the attack do not mean well for democracy, hence, they should be brought to book.
The Labour party steward enjoined members of the party to carry out their campaign in a civilised manner and shun campaign of calumny.
Okundaye, however, called on the state government to give all the parties in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo level playing ground during the cause of campaign
It would be recalled that the alleged attack on Edo State Labour Party guber candidate, Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata team in Owan West has continued to generate a lot of condemnations from different political stakeholders in the state.
Similarly, the party’s stalwart, Dr. Okundaye, has sympathised with relations of victims of the recent Jattu Market rainfall disaster in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, particularly those who lost their loved ones and the wounded.
But reacting to the unfortunate development, Okundaye, said the government would have long ago carried out precautionary measures in order to avoid such tragedy, just like the way it’s done in developed countries.
He said that one of the party’s policies that would be implemented when it wins the governorship election in September, is the issues of welfare and safety of the people, which according to him, is priority to Akpata
