Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State council, Mr. Festus Alenkhe has admonished practicing journalists in the state to stick to the ethnics of the profession and be apolitical in their reportage as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lift its ban on political campaigns in the state.

He gave the advice in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Benin.

Mr. Alenkhe said for them to avoid a legal pitfall, they must stick to the ethnical standard of the profession.

“I humbly advise all practicing Journalists in Edo State to remain apolitical. Don’t allow yourself to be used by politicians.

“Report their campaign promises and statements only, that is why it is called ” CAMPAIGN “. Stay away from defamatory and blackmailing reports. A reminder that the courts will be waiting.

“Refer to the ethics of the journalism profession and be reminded of the Ethics/Disciplinary Committee of the NUJ”, Alenkhe said.

Recall that the Edo State governorship election comes up September 21, 2024 in the state.
