Edo Guber: Water, Roads, Electricity Top CVN Opinion Poll Respondents Demands

The Team Lead, Civic Voices Nigeria (CVN), Idris Zekeri Junior said respondents to the opinion poll carried out by his organization on what should form their criteria for electing a governor in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election have shown that the people have zeroed on the person that can provide them with water, roads and electricity.

He also said that respondents preferred competency to political zoning of governorship slot to a particular region of the state.

The group disclosed this while speaking on what it theme “The Civic Voices of Edo 2024 Opinion Polls Findings” in Benin.

He said the poll was conducted using the interview survey method and 526 persons where interviewed, 306 persons in four locations across Edo South, 136 persons in three locations across Edo North and 84 persons in three locations across Edo Central.

Zekeri said respondents rated the present governor who has served for seven and half years, poorly in terms of physical infrastructure and food security.

He said when they asked the respondents what areas they would like the next government to prioritize that will effect them positively, he said 276 persons, representing approximately 52.5 percent of the sample size picked water, roads and light. 114 persons representing 21.7 percent of the sample size picked price control (cost of basic necessities. 58 persons representing approximately 11 percent of the sample size picked job creation while 36 persons representing approximately 6.8 percent of the sample size picked education, 4.2 percent picked improved security and 2.1 percent highlighted other sundry issues.

He added that from their survey, it was also learnt that 70 percent of the respondents said that they would be voting for their preferred candidates regardless of their political parties.
