The Edo State University, Iyamoh, has held its orientation programme for the 10th set of admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic section.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Dawood Egbefo while welcoming the fresh students, said their admission into the institution marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey in their lives.
The Acting VC said that the orientation was organised to help guide the fresh students through the process and provide them valuable insights into University life.
Prof. Egbefo said today marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey in their lives and congratulate them for being among those that have been admitted into Edo State University Iyamho, adding that, the university had grown to become a symbol of academic excellence since its recognition by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016.
“From that moment onward, we have dedicated ourselves to a path of growth, innovation, and distinction.
“To you as the 10th set of admitted students, I offer my sincere congratulations. Your arrival here today continues a proud tradition of academic excellence and intellectual pursuit that defines Edo University Iyamho”, Egbefo said.
The acting VC however encouraged them’ to seize the numerous opportunities that lie ahead, and make full use of the resources available to them during their time in the university.
“The knowledge you gain here will equip you to be agents of change in your communities and beyond”, he said.
He noted that the university management understands the challenges that come with transitioning to university life and has therefore included important information into the academic administration and opportunities for personal growth.
He urged them to approach their time with great responsibility, ensuring that their actions, conduct and support will both enhance their personal development and the integrity of this institution.
“Our open and effective communication is essential and we encourage you to use the available channels to raise concerns or share feedback.
“The establishment of the Students’ Representative Council plays a crucial role in fostering a strong connection between the student body and the university management”, he added.
Earlier, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Muniratu Maliki, said the Student Affairs division is central to student welfare.
Prof Maliki said the division plays a vital role in enhancing the students experience by fostering an environment of support, engagement and personal development.
She said the orientation provides students with information that would make them achieve success in their academic career and personal goals during their stay in the university environment.
“I urge you to approach your time here in Edo State University, Iyamoh with an open mind, a willingness to learn and a commitment to follow the guidelines provided”, Maliki said.
The orientation featured some topic such as “Self Awareness” by Mallam Mohammed Shiabu, Chief Imam of Uzairue; “Purpose, Consistency and Accomplishment” by Dr Abubakar Al-hassan; “Academic Policies, Student Welfare and Engagement” by Dr Simon Imoisi.
Other topics are; “Code of Conduct” by Mrs A. Umeadi; “Penalty for Misconduct” by Dr Obinna John-Kennedy Chukwu; “Academic Information System” by Dr Bello Oshiomegbie and “Use of E-library” by Mr Katti Abraham
Highpoint of the event was the issuance of scholarship letters to successful candidates in the Batch II Scholarship Scheme of the institution.
