As the economic hardship continue to bite hard unabated, a civil rights group, Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) has declared a week long peaceful protest to that effects beginning from on Monday the 26 of February, 2024.
Recall that the group has earlier given president Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima 14 days ultimatum to quit power or fix the Nigerian economy.
The group made the call in a communique signed by its Interim TEC Chairman, Leftist Austine Enabulele and made available to newsmen in Benin.
Comrade Enabulele said having observed and analysed carefully the immediate and remote causes of the unbearable hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria today, they have discovered and concluded that it is as a result of the wickedness and ineptitude of the government of the day that doesn’t care about the welfare of Nigerian citizens, and as such, a departure from the social contract entered by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the 29th of May, 2023 when he took the oath of office.
Enabulele added that since the first day of taking over the leadership of Nigeria, the country had known no peace in terms of their daily living.
He said, beginning from the increase in fuel price till date, continuous rising of dollar that has affected everything in Nigeria including farm produce that comes from the local farms to our markets, this has made the saying that whatever goes up must surely come down an irony, considering dollar-naira exchange rate and suffering in Nigeria.
The group in its statement signed by Leftist Aliyu Umweni, the Interim Public Relations Officer and made available to newsmen in Benin City, calls on the citizens of the state to join in the peaceful protest.
