The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has set a lofty target of N25.2 trillion as revenue for the year 2025.

FIRS unveiled the figure in Abuja on Thursday at its management retreat titled: “Building a High-Performing FIRS: Elevating Performance Through Collaboration and Innovation.”

The Service set a revenue target of N19.4 trillion for 2024 but exceeded expectations by generating N21.6 trillion.

Speaking on the achievement, the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zaccheus Adedeji, attributed the success to the resilience and commitment of FIRS staff, as well as the leadership provided by its management and researchers.

Adedeji described FIRS not just as a revenue authority but as a key pillar of Nigeria’s economic stability.

Building on the 2024 success, the FIRS chairman said the Service, in 2025, will focus on long-term resilience, operational excellence, and transformation into a globally recognised revenue authority.

He pointed out that the organisation’s strategic roadmap will be anchored on three key pillars, namely: capacity building and training; modernising FIRS offices to world-class standards; and technological advancement.

“The year 2024 was devoted to laying a solid foundation for transforming the Federal Inland Revenue Service into a globally recognised, efficient, and trusted revenue authority, marking a period of strategic growth and positioning the service as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic progress.

“As we step confidently into 2025, we must carry forward the momentum of this achievement with renewed energy, a clear vision, and a well-designed roadmap. This year, our focus will be on consolidating and institutionalising our internal strengths to ensure long-term resilience and operational excellence.

“This year, our mission is both ambitious and transformative: to build a service of excellence, defined by the expertise of our people, the modernisation of our facilities, and the innovative use of technology to enhance our processes. This mission is not just about sustaining our success but about consistently elevating our impact and solidifying our position as a global revenue authority.

“To achieve this, we have outlined a strategic roadmap anchored on three critical pillars. We will empower our workforce with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to excel in modern jobs. Targeted, high-impact training programmes aligned with global best practices will enable employees to navigate complexities, embrace innovation, and provide stellar service to taxpayers.

“This year, we will continue to invest in revitalising our workplaces, ensuring they reflect the vision of a world-class institution. From modernised offices to sustainable practices, our facilities will serve as environments that foster excellence and productivity. Technology will drive our transformation in 2025 through the expansion of our Integrated Tax Administration System. We will unify national platforms for tax collection, leverage emerging technologies, and enhance taxpayer-facing platforms to create seamless, efficient, and transparent processes that redefine the taxpayer experience.

“These pillars are not just abstract ideas; they are practical, actionable objectives that will be realised in every department and operation within the service. They represent a unified direction, one that prioritises excellence, innovation, and impact.

“So, let us embrace 2025 with courage and hope, turning challenges into opportunities and possibilities into achievements. Together, we will propel intergenerational revenue strategies to greater heights, setting new benchmarks for success and redefining global standards. Welcome to 2025, a year of action, impact, and transformation,” Adedeji said.
