A group on the platform of Benin Forum of Patriot, has listed 38 names of notable sons and daughters of the Benin Kingdom to organize a meeting with the view of wading into the lingering crisis in the kingdom.
This was contained in a statement signed by Imasuen Amowie Izoduwa (convener) and Osazee Edigin (co-convener), respectively and made available to Journalists in Benin.
The 38 persons are: 1. Chief Sam Igbe – Iyase of Benin Kingdom 2. Edion Oliha – Oliha of Benin Kingdom 3. Prince Aghatise Erediauwa 4. Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion- Esama of Benin Kingdom 5. Chief Ebohon Osemwegie 6. Pa John Odigie Oyegun 7. Chief Lucky Igbinedion 8. Rt. Hon. Pius Odubu 9. Chief Lucky Imasuen 10. Sen. Roland Owie 11. Sen. Daisy Ehanire Danjuma 12. Sen. Ehigie Edobor Uzamere 13. Sen. Matthew Urhoghide 14. Hon. West Idahosa 15. Hon. E. J. Agbonayima 16. Hon. Ogbeide Ihama 17. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu 18. Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen 19. Engr. The duo said the list is a few amongst other several prominent Benin Elders, and that, the Iyase of Benin kingdom is expected to Chair the process of the reconciliation while Chief Lucky Imasuen and Senator Ehigie Uzamere would coordinate the entire process of reaching out to the above names.
The conveners of the forum said that it is their very emotional appeal to all the elders of the land, noting that the Benin Kingdom is sinking because of their failure to remedy the situation on ground.
They said they are making a passionate appeal to the elders from both traditional and political classes, as there are burning issues currently bedevilling the Benin Kingdom and which they all must come together to tackle collectively.
The conveners maintained that the Great Benin Kingdom is revered all over the world with His Majesty at the helm of affairs, and that they will not fold their hands and watch it crumble.
According to them “We are mandating our elders to a matter of urgency to assemble a stakeholder meeting of Edo sons and daughters to a- round table discussion this month of January 2026, so we can x-ray all of the issues currently affecting our unity as a people, after key deliberations made; recommendations to tackle it can now be presented to the general public after due consultations have been made.
“It is a matter of urgency, our collective future as a people should now be considered more important than our individual interest and goals”.
The conveners, while showing their deep concern for the kingdom, said, according to the words of Oba Erediauwa of blessed memory “So we appeal to Edo “hia” to heed our previous warnings; learn to subordinate the interest of self to that of the whole community; see yourself first as Ovbiedo before a member of this party or the other”
