Hope Rekindles As Edo NUJ Chairman, Alenkhe Facilitates Release Of Three Inmates From Oko

Hope has been rekindled for three inmates sentenced to Oko Correctional Centre, Benin, for stealing Action-bitter (sachet gin), iron and cell phone respectively as the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, wade in and facilitated their release.

The inmates, were from Imo, Ebonyi and Nasarawa States, respectively but residents in Edo State.

The trio who least expected this kind gesture expressed gratitude to the chairman for facilitating their release assuring him that they would never return to crime.

Speaking on the rationale behind the kind gesture to the inmates, the NUJ Chairman, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, said it was part of his contributions for them having gone through the three core “Rs” that define the modern mission of a correctional centres reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

He admonished the newly freed inmates to go back to their families with a renewed mind and never to venture into crime again.
