Edo State Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo has said he is in a hurry to work and bring about relief to the people of Edo State.

Reaffirming his desire and commitment to the total revamping of all sectors across the three senatorial districts of the state, Senator Okpebholo said the state will be turned into a massive construction site immediately he is sworn in on the 12th of November, 2024 noting that a lot needs to be done urgently to reposition the state on the path of development

The Governor-Elect gave this reassurance during his “thank you tour” to the three senatorial districts in the state earlier in the week.

Speaking at the various senatorial districts, Senator Okpebholo continually decry the current gory state of things in the state, noting that the state has been on a developmental standstill since the exit of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in 2020 and promised to address the issues plaguing the state immediately he is sworn in.

The Governor-Elect while promising to declare a state of emergency on road constructions, health care delivery, educational sector and agricultural reforms, said his administration will not give excuses for failure as the people are tired of seeing billboards that depict hopelessness and cluelessness on their highways.

Senator Okpebholo said, “the reason I am here today is not just to thank you for your overwhelming support during the governorship election that returned me as your governor-elect, but also to reassure you that all that we promised during the campaigns will be delivered speedily.

“I am in a hurry to work and bring relief to the people of Edo State. My deputy and I have taken time to assess the situation of the state, and the outcome is pitiable. Our people have been subjected to avoidable hardship, our infrastructure is in a sorry state and nothing seems to be working. It is as if Edo state do not have a governor since our leader, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole left office in 2020”.

Senator Okpebholo continued, “we cannot continue like this. I left my base very early this morning but got here late because it was very difficult to navigate our way here from Irrua. The Ekpoma – Auchi federal road is currently undergoing massive reconstruction and the adjoining state roads that ought to serve as alternatives at this time are in a deplorable situation.

The outgoing governor spent his years in office playing politics with our roads by erecting billboards and giving unnecessary excuses at the detriment of the lives and safety of Edo people

The Governor-elect, fueled by deep passion for development, assured the people that his administration will be different as he was elected to proffer solutions to the issues plaguing the state and not to give excuses as to why he can’t perform, stressing that a responsive and responsible government must have the capacity to think up solutions as well as having the empathy and compassion to do whatever is necessary to alleviate the suffering of the people he is elected to serve.

Senator Okpebholo said, “today, I want to assure you that we will not give you any excuse for failure. You voted for us to provide a solution and solution we will provide. We had already negotiated with the federal government and massive repair work is currently ongoing on in Ekpoma – Auchi Express Road. We on our part will immediately embark on fixing the adjoining state roads to compliment the effort of the federal roads so that when next I am coming to Auchi, it will be on a smooth, wide and good roads”, he reaffirmed.

Speaking on the education and health sector, thee governor-elect assured the people that his administration will give priority to better healthcare services across the state and provide an enabling, conducive environment for quality education that meet world standard while ensuring a motivated work force that would maintain and sustain the standards.

He also assured the people of a mechanized agricultural intervention that would ensure that Edo not only become food sufficient but become a major exporter of agricultural products, stressing that Edo state has enough arable lands to feed not just Nigeria, but Sub-Sahara Africa stressing that it only required a government that thinks and is ready to channel the state resources to the right use to achieve that.

Senator Monday Okpebholo called for the continuous support and prayers of the people saying that although the task ahead is an enormous one, his administration will work assiduously to put the state in an enviable position across all sectors.
