The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA),Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku has invited the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc and the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to appear before the house over perennial blackout suffered by the people of the state.
They are also to explain why it (BEDC) has refused to make the prepaid metres available to the people of the state.
The duo are to appear before it on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
The order is flowing from the disposition of the member representing the Uhunmwonde Constituency, Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi under matters of urgent public importance.
Osamwonyi, while addressing the house, called on the legislative arm to prevail on BEDC to as a matter of urgency, provide the indigenes of the state with prepaid meters, and put a halt to estimated billing which has brought untold hardship to the people and crippled commercial activities in the state.
After deliberations by other honourable members who spoke of the hardship faced by indigenes in their various constituencies, the house further reached a decision that, the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria and the Transmission Company of Nigeria should appear before it on Wednesday March 20, 2024 to state the reasons the people have to be kept in darkness for so long a time.
Recall that the BEDC, in one of its earlier circular pleaded with the citizens of the state to bear with the company till January 7 before light would be stabilized.
The company listed the affected areas and said that, it was due to the upgrading of its facilities in the state.
