Learning Unhindered: Female Inmates Sit for SSCE/NECO Exams In Edo

Though kept behind bars, yet not hindered as four inmates have successfully participated in the June/July 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), courtsey of the Nigerian Correctional Service Female Custodial Facility in Auchi.

The SSCE is organized by the National Examination Council (NECO).

This is contained in a statement signed by Edo command PRO, Mr Aminu Suleman, in Benin.

According to Suleman, “This marks the climax of the Secondary Education Studies that the inmates began from scratch by attending adult literacy classes at the Female Custodial Facility.”

The Deputy Controller of Corrections In charge of the Facility DCC Mrs Jane Odoh congratulated the inmates for the milestone achievement.

Odoh expressed her happiness, eulogized their resilience and dedication to be better citizens.

She also said that the Nigerian Correctional Service under the leadership of Mr Haliru Nababa, is poised to ensure the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through various means including educational training, skills acquisition, sports and many more.

Odoh informed the excited inmates that the Comptroller of Corrections, Edo Command Emehinola Philomena of her continues support to all the inmates in the quest to achieve successful reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration into the society.

“When you regain freedom, make sure you further your studies, excel and contribute your quota toward a better society.” She said

Details provided by the Coordinator of the inmates Educational activities Mrs Imonikhe Evelyn showed that six inmates were prepared and registered for the NECO Examination.

Four of the inmates wrote the exams and two legally regained freedom from Custody before the commencement of the examinations.

On behalf of the other Female inmates, Miss Mercy expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty, the Comptroller General of Corrections and other management authorities of the Nigerian Correctional Service for a dream come true.

She Promised that they would be ambassadors of change.
