A group on the platform of Talakawa’s Parliament (TP), has asked the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to tender their resignation letters for keeping mute over the killings of personnel in Ohoror Community in Ughelli North, Delta State.

President of the group, Marxist Kola Edokpayi in a protest march to the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, in Benin, said since the killings of the police officers, the Inspector General of Police has not considered addressing the nation about it.

“We are saying no to the killings of more than 20 policemen who went for a rescue mission but were killed in a forest in Delta State.

“It is very sad that the highest echelon in the Nigeria police force has decided to maintain a grave silence. I don’t know why they have chosen to remain silent in the issue”, Edokpayi said.

He said the Inspector General of Police should emulate the Nigerian Army who has come out to speak against the killings of its personnel in Okuama community in Delta State.

“They are supposed to issue statement in condemnation of the act and called for assistance in apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

“I don’t know why they have chosen to follow that line. Just last week here, some military officers were killed in less than two hours, the military address the issue.

“We want to say since the police have decided to maintain grave silence, that shows that the Inspector General of Police and the force Public Relations Officer are incompetent.

“We want to use this opportunity to call for the sack of the Inspector General of Police and his PRO for maintaining grave silence.

“These are human beings and their lives are important to us”, Edokpayi said.

On his part, the chairman, NUJ, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, while calling on the protesters to be peaceful in their protest, condemned the killings of the police officers and that of the military personnel in Delta State.

He called on those in the habit of hurting the nation’s security agencies to desist from it forthwith and toe the line of peace in resolving whatever differences they might be having with any of them.
