The Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara has described his meeting with President Bola Tinubu as an avenue for father and son to discuss issues, saying that, peace has been restored between him and the President.

He met with the president at the Presidential Villa, signaling a renewed working relationship aimed at moving Rivers State forward.

Governor Fubara, who resumed office on September 19 after the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State was lifted, described the meeting as a cordial “father-son discussion.” He expressed gratitude to the president and sought guidance to avoid future crises in the state’s governance.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Fubara said, “It’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the Governor of Rivers State. It’s not much. It’s a father-son discussion, telling him thank you and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue for him to guide me properly so we don’t be in any situation of crisis. That’s all.”

When further asked whether the peace between them was genuine or fragile, the governor was unequivocal: “As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together. Thank you.”

This development follows President Tinubu’s historic decision to lift the State of Emergency in Rivers State, which had suspended the governor and his team and created political uncertainty for six months.

Recall that President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, March 18, to address the protracted political logjam between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly members, even after the Supreme Court’s pronouncement.

In proclaiming the six-month State of Emergency, President Tinubu said the state’s security situation and political tension necessitated his intervention to forestall a total breakdown of law and order.
