The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has explained how 118 inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adamu Duza, on Thursday, he said there was a heavy rainfall on Wednesday night that wreaked havoc on the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, resulting in a great damage to the facility and aiding the escape of 118 inmates.
Duza said that the downpour caused severe damage to the custodial centre’s infrastructure, including a breach in the perimeter fence, which allowed the inmates to flee.
He said the NCoS quickly activated its recapturing protocols, collaborating with other security agencies to recapture 10 of the escaped inmates adding that efforts to recapture the remaining fleeing inmates are on course.
