NYSC Edo State Launches 3-Day Capacity Building Workshop For Corps Heads

National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Edo State, recently commenced a three-day state-wide capacity building workshop for corps leaders across all zones in the State.

The event which kicked off at the Multipurpose Hall of National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Benin City, had the theme: “Coordination, Teamwork and Leadership as tools for Effective Service Delivery in Community Development Service (CDS)”.

Representing the State Coordinator, Dr.(Mrs) Ifeoma Frances Ben-Ushie, Zonal Inspector for Oredo Zone, Mr. Paul Emmanuel, highlighted the significance of the workshop, noting that, much is expected of corps leaders as the training is crucial to strengthening their capacity for effective service delivery.

The first lecture , “Leadership and Coordination in CDS,” was delivered by Mrs. Ijeoma Theresa Anyanwu, Local Government Inspector, Oredo.

She emphasized the importance of leadership, coordination, and teamwork in mobilizing corps members and managing resources to ensure impactful and sustainable community projects.

Mrs. Mary Imaji Osazewende, Gender Desk Officer and LGI Ikpoba Okha LGA, spoke on “Teamwork, Innovation, and Project Execution as Tools for Effective Service Delivery in CDS.”

She encouraged corps leaders to discover and maximize their potentials, be innovative, and coordinated to effectively make meaningful impacts in their host communities.

Mr. Paul Emmanuel stressed the importance of documentation, transparency, and accountability in CDS reporting, advising corps leaders to keep records, forward reports, and write comprehensive handover notes to guide their successors.

In a goodwill message from the President/Founder, Florish Foundation for Women And Youths (Dr (Mrs) Ifeoma Frances Ben-Ushie, delivered by Miss Esther Omotayo, she applauded the NYSC Edo State management for supporting youth leadership programmes and encouraged participants to seize the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead with purpose as the workshop will not only enhance CDS activities, but the skills, insights and networks gained will shape their leadership journey beyond the service year.
