Popular Nigerian TikToker and live-streamer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has broken his silence on his four-day detention in police custody, revealing the harsh conditions he endured and describing the experience as one of the darkest moments of his life.
The content creator revealed that he barely ate or bathed during his time in detention after being arrested last Friday in the Lekki area of Lagos.
His arrest reportedly stemmed from an altercation with police officers involving a tinted vehicle that had no number plate.
After regaining his freedom, Peller recounted his experience in a series of posts shared on his Snapchat account.
“I am ugly now, I can’t show my face yet. Omo, I slept in cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life,” he wrote.
According to him, fellow inmates recognised him during his detention and jokingly nicknamed him “001.”
He also claimed he went for days without food or proper hygiene.
“I no chop for four good days, I no bath,” he said.
Reflecting on the incident, Peller said the experience had changed his outlook, adding that he now intends to avoid situations that could land him in trouble, especially as he prepares for his wedding.
“Nah my wedding dey my mind. Nah to dey waka jeje after wedding japa,” he said.
A viral video that surfaced shortly after Peller’s arrest showed the TikToker accusing police officers of harassment.
He alleged that the officers pulled his shirt, pointed a gun at him and forcibly took him into custody, adding that he had only recently acquired the vehicle involved in the incident.
Peller was arraigned on Tuesday alongside Bello Oladipo on a three-count charge bordering on obstruction of police officers, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The Lagos Magistrates’ Court subsequently granted him N500,000 bail, securing his release after four days in detention as the case proceeds.
