The Executives of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo State branch, have visited past leaderships of the association with the view of fostering a cordial relationship and strengthen the values of the association in the state.
The Red Cross, led by the state chairman, Pastor Monday Edogiawerie, visited the immediate past chairman of the association, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council, Dr. Wilson Imongan and Mr. Moses Obazee JP, who were both past chairmen of the association.
Speaking for the state chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Pastor Monday Edogiawerie, the state secretary of the association, Mr. Wilson Ekhomogiazin, said the directive was given by the executive and that they have resolved to follow it up to the letter.
“The branch executive committee resolved that the present executive both at the branch level and the divisional level to pay visits to all past leaders. And these past leaders are those who have served at the state level either as chairman or any other positions.
“And for today, we kick start the visit.
“We did visit the immediate past chairman according to the present chairman that he will be starting with the chairman who handover to him and we have three visits today.
“So, we are in the office of Festus Alenkhe, who is also the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists. After now we’ll be visiting Dr. Wilson Imongan, a former chairman of Nigerian Red Cross Society and a former Honourable Commissioner for Health, Edo State.
“Thereafter, we’ll visit Mr. Moses Obazee JP, a former branch chairman of Nigerian Red Cross Society and former treasurer of the local government. So the essence of this visit is to have a good time with them”, Edogiawerie said.
Pastor Edogiawerie said the contributions of the past leaderships have made the Red Cross Society what it is today in the state and that they are prepared to build on the solid foundation and legacies laid down by them.
He said though they have visited three past chairmen, they would also be visiting Mr. Michael Osuma and Dr. Moses Aghedo who both held executive positions and led the association to a greater height, respectively.
He said besides visiting the past chairmen, old members that have also contributed to the survival of the association would be visited.
According to him while eulogizing the past leaderships, he said “For the fact that we have an office called the Nigerian Red secretariat today, shows that our past leaders were visionary leaders and they have left a mark for everyone to follow.
“Red Cross is not an organization where we begin to compare what each and everyone has done but I want to say that for every successive administration, they all left footprints for everyone to see”,
On the part of the immediate past chairman of the association and current chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, he commended the leadership of the Red Cross Society, Edo State branch for the visit.
He also lauded them for building on the legacies of the past leaderships urging them to keep up the good works.
