The pupils and teachers kidnapped in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained freedom, bringing a welcome relief to their families and the wider community.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In a brief update shared via his verified X handle, Onanuga confirmed that the victims had been released by their abductors.
The release marks a significant moment of relief following days of uncertainty and concern over the safety of those taken.
“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors,” he wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding their release, including whether any ransom was paid or the circumstances leading to their freedom, had yet to be revealed.
Newstracktoday reports that the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State spent about 50 days in captivity before their reported release.
They were abducted on May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked schools in the Yawota, Ahoro and Esiele communities in Oriire LGA.
Reports indicated that 39 pupils and seven teachers were among those taken, making a total of 46 victims.
By early July, they had reached the 50th day in captivity.
