Member representing Oredo federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Esosa Iyawe, has given over 80 sewing industrial machines and 60 modern makeup kits to members of his constituency across party divides, saying, lifting people out of poverty should be a collective responsibility and not the government alone.

Addressing journalists during the empowerment programme in Benin, he said the way the country is going, relying on only paper certification to meet the family’s demands is no longer feasible but having additional means of income is commendable.

Hon. Iyawe said it is even more difficult if those who have learnt skills have no starter-packs to help them start their own businesses and be self-sufficient.

Iyawe added that he has realized the pains and anguish the masses are passing through and that is why he has made it as part of his electioneering campaign promises that he would stand in the gap for them.

He said the distribution of the over 80 sewing machines both industrial and regular coupled with sophisticated make up kitts is to put smiles on their faces.

Commending the lawmaker for his gesture, the Oredo Labour Party chairman, Amb. Andrew Osawaru, said the people of the constituency would always be grateful to him for coming to their aid at this point in time where the country is passing through a difficult economic hard times.

On the part of one of the beneficiaries, Eghosa Patricia, she said she never expected that such a time would come where she would be empowered with an industrial sewing machine.

She promised to make good use of the equipment to better her lots and that of her family.
