Following the backlash that greeted the free-for-all fight between the Navy other military officials in Bayelsa State during President Bola Tinubu’s visit on Friday, the Nigerian Navy has disclosed the arrest of the personnel involved in the show of shame.

The incident, which has since gone viral like the harmattan wild fire, was captured in a 53-second video showing a heated exchange between military officers.

In the clip, a driver of a Hilux vehicle labelled “Naval Police” is seen exiting his vehicle and exchanging words with another driver.

Moments later, after returning to his vehicle, a soldier carrying a rifle approached and threw a punch at the Naval Police driver, sparking a chaotic brawl.

The scene however degenerated into a free-for-all, with officers from both cars exchanging blows while passersby watched in amazement.

The heated argument ensued while the President was departing the site of an official function during his visit to the state.

As of press time, the cause of the altercation remained unknown.

In a tweet on his X handle on Saturday, Navy Captain Abi Folorunso, Director of Naval Information, confirmed that those responsible had been detained and were undergoing disciplinary proceedings.

“The affected personnel are in custody and already undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary procedures in accordance with extant military regulations,” Folorunso added.
