The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Y.D Ahmed, has admonished corps members who are interested in grooming theirs businesses after learning skills to signify interest as the scheme through its collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BOI) and host of others, can work out things for them.
He also urged corps members to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition And Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) of the scheme to create jobs for themselves and be employers of labour rather than seeking after the non existing white collar jobs after their service year.
He gave the task during his visit to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Okada, Edo State.
Ahmed said SAED was set up to cater for the needs of the corps members and that it avails them the opportunity to learn various skills that will be of immense benefits to them even after their service year.
According to him, “Skill Acquisition And Entrepreneurship Development is purposely to make you self -reliant and job creator instead of job seekers, therefore equip yourself with skills.
“Soft loans are available for you through our collaborating partners such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Central Bank, Bank of Industry and host of others.
“Take advantage of these so that you can prepare yourself for life after service so that you will not be an employee”.
Ahmed further admonished the corps members to be focused at achieving the objectives of the scheme, which is fostering unity and development in the country.
While commending them for their orderliness, comportment and cleanliness, he urged them to remain focused and abide by the NYSC rules and regulations.
While also admonishing the corps members to sustain the spirit of hard work, patriotism and resilience, he reminded them of the need to use the social media for self -improvement as well as promotion of the unity, peace, prosperity and togetherness of the nation.
Earlier, the Edo State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma informed the Director General of the scheme that the Orientation exercise was progressing smoothly while adding that all camp officials were working as a team and doing their best to ensure success of the exercise.
She equally informed the DG that the corps members have been of good conduct and have also been participating actively in all camp activities.
