The Speaker of the Edo State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prince Fawaz Muhammad, has eulogized the youths of Edo State for their peaceful conduct during the recent #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.
He commended their adherence to reason and their decision to refrain from engaging in destructive activities.
Speaking in Benin City while assessing the destruction of lives and property in other parts of the states, Rt. Hon. Muhammad maintained that he had previously appealed to the youths of Edo State to exercise their right to protest in a peaceful manner.
He expressed gratitude that they heeded his call, choosing to express their grievances without resorting to violence.
Reflecting on the painful memories of the #EndSARS protests, during which police stations were burned and correctional centres were invaded in Edo State, Muhammad emphasized that the state could not afford a repeat of such chaos.
He acknowledged that while the scars of the #EndSARS protests still linger, the restraint shown by the youths during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests demonstrated a maturity and commitment to a peaceful advocacy.
While offering his condolences to those who lost loved ones during the protests, he called on the federal government to fulfill its responsibility of providing effective leadership adding that good governance is essential to preventing future unrest.
The Speaker also commended Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for his efforts to pacify the youths during the protests.
He noted that the governor’s words played a significant role in calming tensions, resulting in a peaceful outcome with no loss of life or destruction of property in the state.
As the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Muhammad reaffirmed his commitment to guiding and supporting the youth, emphasizing that his duty is to protect their interests.
He appealed to them to remain united in their efforts to build a better nation, reminding them that Nigeria is the only country they have, and it is their collective responsibility to preserve it.
