Twelve years after its abandonment, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has finally commissioned the installation of the 1×15MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in Amufi in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
He said the project will enhance the economic activities in the community and by extension, the state.
He said this during the official commissioning of the 1×15MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in Amufi in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Ogbuku said the commissioning of the project in a community like this has corrected the wrong impression held by many Nigerians that the NDDC is not working.
He said that the project is in line with the Renewed Hope of President Bola Tinubu who has given them a marching order that all abandoned projects must be completed.
While thanking the community for protecting the facility from vandals since it was abandoned in 2012, added that he has also heard of their demand for an access road to the facility.
Sir Ogbuku maintained that the road will be constructed for them.
He called on other communities in the Niger Delta region to learn from Amufi community and ensure that government facilities are well preserved.
Speaking also, the Executive Director, Projects, Sir Victor Etim Antai, said, the 1×15MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation at Amufi in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the State, cost N248 million.
Sir Antai said that the contract provides for the procurement and installation of 1×15MVA 33/11KV transformer with 33KV 1250A SF6 circuit breaker, switch gear panels and tripping unit and 1km 33KV high tension overhead line.
Antai added that the completed project has been tested by the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency and certified to be good.
He maintained that the project has improved the energy requirements of the community and its environs and will also increase productivity in business for companies and artisans
For the senator representing Edo South Senatorial District, Senator Neda Imasuen, said the importance of electricity can’t be over-emphasized in any given community.
While deploring the bad condition of the road leading to the substation, he said he would appeal to the commission to fix it up so that it can be accessed noting that as it is, it is in a very poor condition.
Speaking also, the Edo State Representative, NDDC Board, Hon. Patrick Aisowieren, urged the people of the community to take delivery of the facility and ensure that it is preserved for their own good.
