The University of Jos has shifted examinations slated for March 30 and 31, 2026, following a deadly attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday as government imposes 48 hours curfew in affected areas.
Newstracktoday reports that Deaths and injuries were recorded in the attack.
The university’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, disclosed this on in a statement made available to Journalists in the state.
The statement said the decision was approved by the Vice-Chancellor in response to rising tensions in the area, which hosts many staff and students.
The university advised staff and students to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movements, and report any security concerns to the institution’s security unit.
“In view of the late evening fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Angwan Rukuba (an area that hosts many staff and students of the university), and the consequential tensions it has generated in and around the area and environs, the vice-chancellor has directed that: All examinations scheduled to hold on Monday 30th, and Tuesday 31st March, 2026 are postponed, and will be rescheduled accordingly,” the statement read.
Management added that it is working closely with security agencies to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of members of the university community.
“University management is actively liaising with the relevant security agencies and monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of the lives of members of the university community,” said the statement.
