A wave of compassion swept through the Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada, today as the first surgery under the “50 Free Surgeries for 50 Indigent Persons” initiative was successfully conducted, marking the official commencement of a bold humanitarian campaign led by ace broadcast journalist and public relations expert, Uyi Osaretin, in celebration of his 50th birthday.

The maiden beneficiary, a young lady who had lived for years with uterine fibroids without the means to afford surgery, underwent a successful procedure—completely free of charge. Her story now stands as a powerful symbol of renewed hope and second chances.

The initiative, described as a golden gift of health, is part of a series of outreach activities leading up to Uyi Osaretin’s 50th Birthday Lecture, themed “The Journey of Life: The Essence of Giving Back,” scheduled for August 29, 2025.

Speaking after the milestone surgery, Uyi Osaretin expressed deep gratitude to those whose generous support helped bring the vision to life.

“These are not just donations; they are declarations of faith in humanity,” Uyi Osaretin said. “I am truly moved by the outpouring of goodwill from individuals and families who believe, like I do, that life should be measured by impact, not years.”

Champions of Compassion: Donors Who Made It Possible

The success of this first surgery was made possible by the sacrificial contributions of notable supporters:

Engr. Osa Owieadolo, Chairman and Founder of the Bedrock Foundation, whose visionary leadership and generosity lit the path for the outreach to begin.

The children of Madam Esther Iserhienrhien, who made a heartfelt donation in memory of their late mother—a touching tribute that now lives on through restored lives.

Dr. & Mrs. F. O. Oseji of Igbinedion University, Okada, whose selfless support stands as a testament to their belief in giving back to society.

The outreach championed by Uyi Osaretin will span a range of life-saving interventions, including eye surgeries, intermediate procedures, and major operations—all at no cost to beneficiaries who otherwise couldn’t afford them.

A Call to Join the Mission

With one surgery completed, 49 more lives await a miracle. Uyi Osaretin is calling on well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies, and foundations to partner in this noble cause.
