Why I Abandoned Legislative Quarters, Edo Lawmaker Reveals

Member representing Ikpoba-Okha constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Hon Nicholas Asonsere has said he abandoned his Legislative Quarters to live with the masses in order to feel and share in their day-to-day pains.

He said he has lived in the residence since his primary school days to the university, stressing that the decision has helped him to localise legislative activities with the people, which are his primary constituency.

The legislator who is the Chairman, House Committee on Education, said this in Benin City while giving his account of stewardship to Journalists to mark his one year in office.

He added that he had served as the leader of the local government council legislative arm for three terms while also residing in the residence.

According to him, “I have resided with my people so that I can be part of them and know what they are going through to enable me agitate, speak, profer solutions to their needs and desires.

“And for one year since I was elected, I have kept to my campaigns promises which also include installation of street lights and establishment of a training center for youths vocational works”,.

The lawmaker added that he has sponsored three successful bills in the period under review, adding that one of which has led to a law backing St. Columbus in Uromi.

Speaking further, he said 103 individuals were assisted with JAMB, Senior and Junior Schools Certificates Examination enrollments in his constituency.

According to the lawmaker “but because I am an introvert, I don’t want to be exposing the handicap or inability of certain parents but we keep faith in God, and the beneficiaries are all doing well.”
