Winifred Iwenamen, 39, is set to break the Guinness World Record with an ambition of riding a Cross- over Country bike covering a distance of over 500 kilometers in 12 hours non-stop.
Addressing Journalists in Benin, the English and Literary Studies graduate from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State , pointed out that she nurses the ambition to surpass the existing record of 500 kilometers.
According to the Ewatto born bicker from Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, Winifred told Journalists that the race is set to take place on the 29th day of March 2025 in a dedicated and approved race track in Evbuobanosa, after Light House Polytechnic along Benin- Agbor Road in Benin City Edo State capital.
She said that her motivation is her love for riding bikes.
According to her, ” I love riding bikes and it is an inspiration from God to do this and I decided to explore it.
“Initially, I wanted to ride from Benin City to Lagos but the authorities of the Guinness World Record did not approve of the use of commercial routes , so, I opted for the dedicated motor race track at Evbuobanosa which was approved.
” I ride bike daily but the one designated for the race is motor cross bike, like the ones used in dessert areas and the Guinness World Record wants to see if I can break the existing 500 kilometers record in 12 hours.
“There is existing record of 500 kilometers and my target is to surpass the existing record”.
Winifred who said she has been riding bikes well over 10 years now, pointed out however that this would be the first time she is doing a major event like this, adding that, she has been riding bikes on personal bases adding that, she has seriously trained and prepared for the event.
According to her, part of the preparations for the event would include an additional bike in case of the event of break down, vulcanizer, a mechanic, an ambulance, surveyors who would take accurate measurements of the kilometers covered, two witnesses who would be security personnel.
She also pointed out that there would be a light refreshment for the spectators who are expected to witness the event covering a twelve hour period.
Winifred who graduated in 2012 in English and Literary studies is currently a teacher in Edo state.
