The Nigerian Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council has bestowed an award of excellence on the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Edo State, Engr. Ethan Uzamere for his great contributions to societal development by judiciously executing the state government plans on roads.
The award was conferred on him at an event organized by the union to mark the World Press Freedom’s Day with the theme ” A Press For The Planet: Journalism In The Face Of Environmental Crisis,” held at the press center in Benin City.
He was speaking immediately after receiving the award, Engr. Uzamere, Who was represented by the Director, Design and Consultancy of the ministry, Engr. Wilson Asemota thanked the union for finding him worthy of the Award of Excellence for hard work and service to humanity.
He further used the opportunity to appreciate the good people of Edo State for voting and standing by His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki all these years.
He dedicated the award to him for his great administrative strides and hard work in the various projects he has carried out successfully since his resumption of office in 2016.
” It is with utmost sincerity and joy that I receive this prestigious award owing to the ceaseless developmental strides, road rehabilitation, construction, and infrastructural revolution, all of which have been recorded from the Edo State Public Service over the years since the inception of this current administration of His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki which has brought significant developments in Edo through various reforms and projects carried out thus far Uzamere said.
While recognizing the productive roles and long-lasting societal impact that journalists have played overtime in adequately informing, educating, and sensitizing the good people of the state and the general public on the happenings as well as the developmental strides which the Edo state government has recorded over the years through their professional journalistic ethics which includes objective scripting, reportage and circulation of news stories, all of which have helped to reset Edo and moved her forward as a result.
Engr. Uzamere stated that the recognition of his hard work by the NUJ and his journey into the world of public service in Edo state spurs the need for continuous collaboration and synthesizing ideas that would help reshape, refocus, and re-energize the state for the betterment of all Edo people, to the admiration of all and most importantly, to the glory of God Almighty.
“As good partners in progress for a greater and better Nigerian society, I hopefully wish that the Nigerian Union of Journalists and the Edo state government can continuously collaborate by proposing and disseminating more positive narratives and policies that would help in reviewing the Nigerian Constitution so that both states and local government areas can have their autonomy and be more in control of their resources, which would in turn help stimulate our local economy.”
In his opening remark, the Chairman, NUJ, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, underscored the need for journalists to be credible and unbiased in their reportage.
