FRSC Confirms Deaths Of 23 Passengers In Kano Truck Accident

The Kano State Sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the deaths of 23 passengers in a horrible road mishap that occurred in the state on Thursday night.

The command said while 23 persons were said to have lost their lives, 48 others sustained vary degree of injuries.

A statement by CRS Abdullahi Labaran, Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, said the crash occurred about 9.50pm along the Kano-Maiduguri Road, under the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover, Hotoro.

The statement revealed that the preliminary crash report indicated that the crash involved an over-speeding trailer (DAF Model) carrying goods and passengers at the time of the crash.

The excessive speed resulted in loss of control of the vehicle under the bridge and the accident that occurred

In the meantime, the injured victims have been evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for urgent medical attention while the police have cleared the scene.

“In response to the tragic incident, the Sector Commander, FRSC Kano Sector Command, CC UM Matazu, has dispatched an investigation team to conduct a thorough inquiry into the crash.

He has also extended his deep condolences to the families of the deceased and prays for the quick recovery of the injured victims, while warning drivers and the general public against overloading of trailers with goods, animals, and passengers.
